NASA to launch safety review of SpaceX and Boeing

NASA to launch safety review of SpaceX and Boeing

Its primary aim is to launch American astronauts to space from USA soil for the first time ever since 2011. The U.S. space agency promises a thorough and "invasive" investigation on employee work hours, leadership and management styles, the responsiveness of both companies to safety concerns, and of course, drug policies. A safety advisory panel also found recently that Boeing still has a number of key tests that it has not yet completed, included tests of its spacecraft's heat shield and parachute systems.

As reported by the Washington Post, citing sources, the decision was made including the background of the case when the head of SpaceX Elon Musk smoked, presumably, marijuana during an interview on one of the Internet show in September.

Now, NASA is planning to review the workplace culture of Musk's other darling, SpaceX, because some senior NASA officials didn't like the look of Musk indulging in the devil's lettuce.

In 2014, SpaceX and Boeing were awarded NASA contracts to build separate capsules to launch astronauts to the space station, with a total value worth up to 6.8 billion US dollars.

Nearly 40 hurt when bus carrying Univ. of Washington band overturns
But if they do, the opposing WSU Marching Band is asking their own fans to give the band a warm welcome. The bus that rolled over was one of six carrying band members and chaperones across the state.

Elon Musk smoking weed and sipping whiskey on YouTube pushed NASA to order a review of SpaceX and Boeing before they ferry astronauts to the International Space Station. Now, four years later, SpaceX is at the forefront of re-usable, cost-effective rocket technology and may even beat NASA when it comes to bringing humans to the Red Planet.

"Human spaceflight is the core mission of our company", said SpaceX in a statement. "Flying safely has always taken precedence over schedule.", said NASA Spokeswoman Marie Lewis.

The unpiloted Crew Dragon flight coming up in January, known as Demo-1 on the SpaceX manifest, will launch from historic pad 39A at the Kennedy Space Center.

Boeing also issued a similar press release saying, "The culture at Boeing ensures the integrity, safety and quality of our products, our people and their work environments". SpaceX received $2.6 billion from the program. It is unclear if Musk has a government security clearance from SpaceX's contract with NASA.
