May tells party critics that ousting her 'won't help Brexit'

On Thursday, four ministers resigned over the draft Brexit withdrawal agreement, MPs said it had no chance of getting through parliament, and Brexiteers began submitting their no-confidence letters.

"The government have to go back to the European Union and renegotiate rapidly", he said, adding that second Brexit referendum was "an option for the future" and "not an option for today".

The Brussels negotiations will finalize a parallel political declaration setting out a road-map for post-Brexit negotiations on future EU-UK ties.

There is also doubt over whether it can win the approval of the House of Commons, with opposition parties - including Northern Ireland's Democratic Unionist Party - opposing it.

Dieter Kempf told Funke Mediengruppe newspaper chain that a no-deal Brexit would hit the automotive, aerospace, chemical, pharmaceutical, engineering and electrical industries particularly hard.

May will be traveling to Brussels to meet with EU leaders before an emergency European Council summit on November 25.

Speculation is mounting over whether he has received the 48 letters of no confidence required to challenge her leadership of the Conservative Party.

Mrs May said negotiating teams were working "as we speak" and she meant to go to Brussels and meet European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker.

'If a general election isn't triggered soon, we need a People's Vote'. Brady told BBC Radio on Sunday the 48 threshold had not yet been reached.

Even if Brussels agrees to a deal at the special summit on Dec 25, the deal will be still up for vote in the parliaments of European Union member countries, which will increase the uncertainties for Brexit. "I have to find a way through, what best suits everybody's needs", May said, noting that she admits that her Brexit plan is "not everybody's ideal deal". It also comes at quite an uneasy time for the beleaguered prime minister as she faces growing rebellion among fellow Tories and a massive backlash from the opposition. "The focus this week will be on the future relationship", she told Sky. "In any case, as the EU Presidency, we have made all the preparations to move forward swiftly".

Stephen Barclay has been appointed as the new Brexit Secretary following Dominic Raab's resignation.

Asked about the abuses hurled at her, she said: "It doesn't distract me".

"I have worked very closely with her on Brexit and I think there is still the opportunity to get this right, support the Prime Minister - but she must also listen and change course on Brexit".

Mrs May said the backstop is an "insurance policy", adding: "Both sides can say yes we agree that there are arrangements in place, that a deal that provides for the people of Northern Ireland and therefore that backstop is no longer necessary".

But some pro-Brexit Conservative MPs rallied against it because the United Kingdom will be in a customs union with the EU for years after Brexit, unable to sign meaningful trade deals with other countries, without the unilateral right to leave.

Leadsom said there was still "more to be done" on the deal.

Tory MP Zac Goldsmith, the party's London mayoral candidate in 2016, has sent a letter.

He added: "Had that been the choice, I personally would have voted to remain".

He told Sky News there was support in parliament and in Europe for a "unity platform" that avoided a no-deal Brexit.

He said it was unlikely the draft deal, which was published on Wednesday, would secure enough parliamentary support in a crunch vote billed for December.

Andrea Leadsom has said there is still time for "more to be done" on the Brexit deal as the Conservative Party continues to row over Theresa May's withdrawal agreement with Brussels.
