Black Hawk Helicopter Drops Water to Douse Camp Fire

Butte County Sheriff Kory Honea said he believes there are people on the list who fled the blaze and don't realize they were reported missing.

The Camp Fire also stands as one of the deadliest USA wildfires since the 19th century.

U.S. National Guard troops are in Paradise, a town of about 27,000 in the Sierra foothills about 175 miles (280 km) north of San Francisco, looking for remains of victims.

Honea announced the increased count at a news conference Thursday, after having said a day earlier that 130 people were unaccounted for. Some of the names on the list made public by Butte County officials appear a few times and it's not clear if any are duplicates, Honea said.

Three more people have also died in the Woolsey Fire, further south. "They have to have stability and economic support to get the dollars they need right now". The DNA will be used to help identify fire victims, Honea said.

"The chaos that we were dealing with was extraordinary", Honea said of the early crisis hours last week.

A Sunday closure "gives us enough time to maybe figure something out", he said.

The White House said on Thursday that President Donald Trump plans to visit the fire zones on Saturday to meet displaced residents.

The somber search for the missing in Butte County is painstaking. They'll be searching residences that have been burned.

The search area is wide and spread out. Most homes are gone, as are hundreds of shops and other buildings.

Officials have said it's hard to determine the number of missing.

"We're trying to follow up with those people who are calling in to find out if they've made any contact with their loved ones", Collins said. A section of the store's parking lot was roped off for use as a distribution center for clothes, food and coffee, while people who fled their homes set up dozens of tents in an adjacent field or slept in their cars in the parking lot.
