European Central Bank denies fixing claims made in Al Jazeera documentary

25 of the spot-fixing attempts were successfully executed, the report claims.

The Guardian points out that Al-Jazeera's investigations team claim that in some of the matches both teams appear to have been delivering a fix.

The claims cover test, one-day global and Twenty20 worldwide matches from the early part of the decade and revolve around the manipulation of so- called "session betting", where wagers are made on how many runs will be scored in a specified number of overs.

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has made a decision to issue NOCs to some of its players for the T-10 League scheduled to take place in November/December 2018, said a press release issued by the PCB on Wednesday. He is heard telling the player: "Congratulations for the Ashes". The last payment is ready for going in the account.

Cricket Australia meanwhile is quoted in the documentary as saying the claims about its players are "contemptible". The player is heard saying "lovely" in reply, although the audio was distorted to hide the identity of the player. It also shows Umar Akmal receiving a bag from Aneel Munawar - the linchpin of these fixes.

The PCB set up an independent tribunal for the hearings in the PSL spot-fixing matter and charged Mohammad Irfan, Mohammad Nawaz and Shahzaib Hasan for failing to report approaches along with the two.

In its earlier documentary this year, Al Jazeera alleged corruption among Australia and England players in games in 2016 and 2017.

The second documentary released on Monday morning identifies three Australian ODI matches and two test matches as matches to have been marred by spot-fixing.

"They keep banging on about this (providing them raw, unedited footage) and we keep saying no reputable broadcasting organisation hands over footage because there is a risk of criminal investigation that could mean that the programme wouldn't even be aired". Yet it is understood that Munawar is not on the ICC anti-corruption unit's list of about 20 names said to crop up regularly in their investigations. And they make billions in television rights.

Al Jazeera said it has possession of "purported recordings" of a match fixer who was in contact with a known Indian bookmaker linked to organised crime.

"The frustrations lie with the fact that Munawar (the alleged fixer) is clearly eager to impress his would-be client - al-Jazeera's undercover investigator, David Harrison - with the scope and range of his powers over the world's worldwide cricketers".

Anti-Corruption GM Alex Marshall said in a statement.

The allegations are that players fixed small sections of games to manipulate the number of runs scored.

If Al Jazeera's claims are true, then ICC will have to work a lot at regaining respect in the sporting circles.

He added that an investigation into Al Jazeera's allegations was already under way, but denied the "assertion" that cricket did not take corruption seriously, and called upon the broadcasters to share all their information.

"As with the first programme we have, and will continue to ask for the cooperation of the broadcaster".
