Judge chases inmates who tried escaping from courtroom, catches 1

This judge shrugged off his robe and gave chase as two men tried to make a run for it during a court appearance in Washington state.

Instead, the fearless lawman whipped off his long black robe, leapt from his chair and gave chase as Tanner Jacobson, 22, and Kodey Howard, 28, bolted from the chamber in Winlock, Washington state Friday.

In the video, the men can be seen fleeing the courtroom with the judge soon giving chase. "They're desperate, and I don't know what was going on, so I wanted to at least find out where they were going".

"Once I got to the stairwell, I knew I was going to be able to catch the one that was just in front of me because I immediately started gaining on him", Buzzard continued.

This is not the first time Buzzard has found himself in the middle of an incident. There wasn't security at the time due to the case being a civil matter.

Lewis County's jail roster shows Howard was originally arrested on October 15 on charges of trafficking in stolen property, burglary, and assault, while Jacobson was picked up the same day for reckless driving.

The judge said county officials are working to make courtrooms secure, but funding for additional staffing is a challenge.
