Heartbreaking story behind photo of six-year-old boy's birthday party

In a viral photo his mom, Sil Mazzini shared, Teddy was surrounded by pizza and drinks at his birthday party at a local Peter Piper Pizza, without anyone to share it with.

Arizona kindergarten student Teddy, six, sent out over 32 invitations for his birthday party, only to have no one to show up.

Ms Mazzini told Fox News she had even spoke to some of the children's parents who said their children would come.

But in a heartwarming development, two professional sporting teams have stepped in to cheer Teddy up.

When the NBA's Phoenix Suns saw the photo, they chose to brighten Teddy's day, tweeting, "How about we celebrate with thousands at our place!"

Mazzini says she planned the party a few weeks after Teddy's actual birthday, so that his dad could make it after being out of town.

So far, the Vice President of the Phoenix Rising has confirmed that Teddy will be at the game on Friday.

However it all turned around when Mahlon Layne received a belated gift from his favorite author, Wimpy Kid scribe Jeff Kinney, who FaceTimed the boy, giving him a personal tour of his office and studio decked out in Diary of a Wimpy Kid decor.
