Xiaomi to soon launch Qualcomm Snapdragon 675-powered smartphone

As to where the Snapdragon 675 fits within Qualcomm's increasingly crowded mid-range, the vendor says the phone will be targeted at the same category as the Snapdragon 670. Finally, he touched upon the newly launched Snapdragon 675 SoC to confirm that Xiaomi is looking to launch a device powered by the new SoC soon. The Snapdragon 670 arrived in August, promising enhanced AI performance and the usual performance improvements.

The Snapdragon 675 features Kryo 460 CPU with eight cores: two performance and six efficiency.

Photography is another major focus of the Snapdragon 675. The newest Snapdragon 600-series chipset is based on 11nm LPP process technology and features the latest Adreno 612 GPU, which supports OpenGL ES 3.2, Open CL 2.0, Vulkan, DirectX 12, 4K video playback and DisplayPort over a Type-C connection.

At the same event at which it announced the Snapdragon 675, the company also announced a new version of its upcoming mmWave 5G-capable wireless antenna. In a further effort to bring high-end gaming to the mid-range, the chip maker is working with games and game engines like Unity and Unreal to optimize for 600-series chipsets.

Vladimir Putin to meet USA envoy John Bolton over scrapped nuclear treaty
French President Emmanuel Macron spoke to Trump on Sunday to stress the importance of the treaty, his office said on Monday. The 1987 pact helps protect the security of the U.S. and its allies in Europe and the Far East.

It also supports front-facing or rear-mounted triple cameras with features such as portrait mode and 3D face unlock. The chipset also supports 4K at 30fps video recording and HD at 480fps.

The Snapdragon 675 is touted to deliver up to a 50% uptick in AI applications, with Qualcomm focusing on key use cases: scene and object detection, image style transfer, portrait relighting, face unlock, payment security, and voice. There's also support for low-power Bluetooth 5.0 and the company's aptX wireless audio codec. On the connectivity front, it sports Snapdragon X12 LTE modem that offers up to 600Mbps download speeds and up to 150Mbps upload speeds. We haven't seen a lot of momentum around Quick Charge 4 this year, but that should change in the coming months. While the companies have just started launching devices with Snapdragon 670 Mobile Platform, we have to wait until early 2019 to see Snapdragon 675-powered smartphones in the market.

Better camera processing is another selling point for the 675.
