Paul Manafort Is Giving Mueller’s Team Information On Roger Stone

Paul Manafort, left, departs Federal District Court after a hearing with defense lawyer Kevin Downing on Thursday, April 19, 2018, in Washington.

Manafort is now in detention in an Alexandria jail awaiting sentencing on a host of charges brought by Mueller's prosecutors in two separate jurisdictions as part of his investigation into Russian meddling during the 2016 campaign.

A jury convicted Manafort of eight felony counts of filing false tax returns, failing to report foreign bank accounts and bank fraud.

Prosecutors had wanted to wait until Manafort's cooperation was complete before proceeding to sentencing, where he could face as many as 10 years on the Virginia charges. But then the case took a twist.

Prosecutors declined to offer an estimate of when Manafort's cooperation would end.

There are no official estimates of the size of the group. "It was predictable, and it's also very close to the election". Secretary of State Mike Pompeo has welcomed the country's plan and assures the White House will assist in the efforts.

Manafort, whose penchant for expensive suits came into focus during his trial earlier this year, had requested that he be allowed to appear in court in civilian clothes, but Judge T.S. Ellis III denied the request, saying Manafort should be treated like any other inmate. "This case appears to be no different from any other case in which the defendant is cooperating and that cooperation is expected to extend beyond a scheduled sentencing date". He is reported to have spent over 50 hours with Mr Mueller's team.

That suggests the days and weeks immediately after the November 6 election may be the most pivotal time since Mueller took over the Russian Federation investigation nearly a year and a half ago.

As former top FBI lawyer James Baker testifies about the Russian Federation investigation before Congress, Judicial Watch President Tom Fitton said he would like to see lawmakers focus more directly on Special Counsel Robert Mueller's probe and the "insipid corruption" behind it.

However the charges were dropped the charges without prejudice, meaning the prosecution could reintroduce them at a later date, giving them further leverage over Manafort.

Manafort's argument to the judge, according to Scannell, did not seem to work as planned. He was facing 18 charges altogether, but Ellis declared a mistrial on ten of the charges when one of the jurors could not be convinced of his guilt on all 18 charges.
