Avalanche claim Dano off waivers from Jets

Marko Dano is no longer a member of the Winnipeg Jets.

With the Avalanche claiming winger Marko Dano off waivers Monday, there is now a discussion about how he fits in and where things stand with the team's bottom-six forwards.

Dano joined the Jets in a trade-deadline deal with the Chicago Blackhawks on February 25 of 2016.

The 23-year-old Slovakian forward was a first-round draft pick (27th overall) of the Columbus Blue Jackets back in 2013.

Over his career, the 5-foot-11, 212-pound Dano has played in 130 National Hockey League games with the Blue Jackets, Chicago Blackhawks and the Jets.

The Jets placed Dano on waivers on Sunday to make room for the impending return of Nic Petan after the death of his father.

"He's too young to go through what he went through a year ago", Maurice said after Sunday's win over Carolina. Dano was previously with the Winnipeg Jets but has appeared in just 23 games since the start of the 2017-18 season.

"Marko has been an outstanding professional previous year". He went through the entire year kinda dealing with this, not being in.

And while his opportunity was limited, several players passed Dano on the depth chart during the past two seasons, which is what ultimately made him expendable.
