Machado, Dodgers finish off Baby Braves in NLDS with 6-2 win

Los Angeles Dodgers' Manny Machado flexes after hitting a clutch three-run homer in NLDS Game 4 against the Atlanta Braves.

"We all know that there's a lot more work to be done", Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said after his team finished off the Atlanta Braves with a 6-2 victory Monday in the NL Division Series.

Machado had only three hits in a 3-1 division series victory over the Braves, but two of them were homers. Kurt Suzuki, who was batting for Foltynewicz, contributed a two-out pinch single to drive in Johan Camargo and Tyler Flowers.

Machado, a pending free agent acquired from the Baltimore Orioles in July, hit a three-run homer in the seventh inning off rookie reliever Chad Sobotka.

Machado gave Dodgers an early lead with an RBI double off Braves starter Mike Foltynewicz following a two-out walk in the first inning.

Ryan Madson retired both batters he faced in the fifth in relief of starter Rich Hill, and Kenley Jansen pitched a ideal ninth to clinch the win, striking out the final two batters. "We have eight more wins to go". Though the future looks bright for a team that pulled off a massive rebuilding job much quicker than expected, Atlanta was not quite ready to contend with a team of the Dodgers' quality.

"They're a very powerful team", Atlanta manager Brian Snitker said. The Dodgers, on the other hand, are always making major moves in an attempt to make a title run, and they're even hungrier after falling just one game short a year ago.

Los Angeles also benefited from some shaky Atlanta defense during its go-ahead inning. Facing veteran left-hander Jonny Venters, he smoked a clean single to center field plating Cody Bellinger and Yasiel Puig.

Puig stole second without drawing a throw and came home when backup shortstop Charlie Culberson failed to knock down Freese's sharp grounder up the middle. And we have some really good players coming up. David Freese, picked up from Pittsburgh just minutes before the trade deadline, came through with a pinch-hit, two-run single that put the Dodgers ahead to stay in the sixth.

Machado made sure of it with his 393-foot shot in the seventh inning.

Finally, Foltynewicz blew a 97 miles per hour fastball by the.107 career hitter.

The Dodgers beat Milwaukee 4-3 in the season series.
