Leonard Cohen's poem on Kanye West from 'The Flame' gets buzz online

The poem had social media abuzz on Thursday as West visited the White House. "The Flame", Cohen's posthumous book of poetry, was released on October 2, and one poem is entitled "Kanye West Is Not Picasso".

The poem features lines like "Kanye West is not Picasso/ I am Picasso" and "I am the Kanye West of Kanye West/ The Kanye West/ Of the great bogus shift of bulls**t culture". Later he adds, "I am the Kanye West Kanye West thinks he is/ When he shoves your ass off the stage".

Dated March 15, 2015, the poem is a cheeky point-counterpoint narrative surrounding the boastful nature of the hip-hop star, who once declared onstage: "I am Picasso". "The Flame is the final work from Leonard Cohen, the revered poet and musician whose fans span generations and whose work is celebrated throughout the world", a press release said of the book. Still, many Twitter users were quick to note the timing and call the work a "diss track".

Both Chris Evans and Chris Hemsworth were paid the same amount for their roles in Avengers: Infinity War . She shared a tweet referencing the report and responded "Counterpoint: this is not true".

Regardless of what one's interpretation - or opinion - of this poem may be, Cohen actually spoke positively about West a year before he wrote "Kanye West Is Not Picasso".

"Doesn't really matter what the guy's saying". As for Kanye's longtime frenemy Shawn Carter, Cohen writes, "Jay-Z is not the Dylan of anything/ I am the Dylan of anything". "It's not necessary to identify. When we are exposed to someone's real experience, it resonates and it invigorates".
