Gov. Scott said, "With the National Hurricane Center forecasting Tropical Depression 14 to strengthen and impact Florida's Panhandle as a hurricane, families need to get prepared".

Tropical storm conditions are possible in Flagler County on Wednesday and Thursday, the Weather Service office in Jacksonville said Sunday, warning that minor flooding might be possible in low-lying or poorly drained areas. "We know that a storm like Michael can be devastating and deadly". It was about 990 miles east-northeast of Bermuda and about 1,170 miles west of the Azores, with maximum sustained winds of 50 mph. This storm is expected to stay away from southwest Florida, and there are a few reasons for that.

Following its forecasted track, the NHC says that Michael will move northward near the western tip of Cuba this Monday afternoon and into the southeastern Gulf of Mexico by Monday night.

Forecasters warned that the storm could produce up to a foot of rain in western Cuba, potentially triggering flash floods and mudslides in mountainous areas. A warning indicates tropical storm conditions are expected, in this case, within 24 hours.

"Michael is forecast to be a hurricane, and possibly a major hurricane, when it reaches the northeastern Gulf Coast by mid-week". In the meantime, Florida Governor Rick Scott has declared a State of Emergency for the Florida Panhandle and Big Bend areas. He says winds in those areas could reach more than 100 miles per hour (160 kph).

The National Hurricane Centers model expects Michael to become a hurricane early Tuesday morning. Officials also alerted residents living on the coast of the possibility of flooding caused by the storm.

The storm was about 90 miles (145 kilometers) south of Cozumel, Mexico by mid-day Sunday.

Tropical storm warnings were already in effect for the Mexican coast from Tulum to Cabo Catoche, as well as Pinar Del Rio and the Isle of Youth in Cuba.

The depression is moving toward the north near 3 miles per hour.
