Iraq, Afghanistan the worst passports for travel, Japan the best: Index

Filipinos now have visa-free access to ASEAN nation-states, and several other countries. There are 218 countries in the world in total which require a visa.

For Japanese citizens, flying to virtually anywhere hassle free isn't just a dream - it's a reality.

Japan surged to the top of the latest list because earlier this month, Myanmar became the 190 country to give Japanese visitors a visa waiver, the Liberty Times reported.

Thailand ranked 68th, with visa-free or visa-on-arrival access to 77 countries.

In third place was Germany, France, and South Korea, with 188 destinations accessible visa-free.

The Henley Passport Index represents "the most rigorous and sophisticated measure of global access", according to. the Henley Passport Index.

However, South Africa still ranks 3rd in Africa, after the Seychelles (25th strongest passport in the world, with 152 destinations) and Mauritius (31st strongest passport in the world, with 146 destinations).

"This is still an impressive 14-place improvement over the position that China held at the start of 2017", noted the site.

The UAE has made the most remarkable ascent on the Henley Passport Index, from 62nd place in 2006 to 21st place worldwide now. The Henley index helps people "discover how to maximize your travel freedom through citizenship-by-investment".
