According to Activision, players can expect the day one patch to come in at around 50GB.

Publisher Activision has revealed that Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 will require a whopping 50GB day one patch on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. Activision has warned that those who buy the physical version of the game will have to download a sizeable day one patch before they're able to play.

For a problem free install you need 112GB of free hard drive, although once it's finished the game will "only" take up around 55GB of space. The notes mention that Blackout will be playable once the installation reaches around 30% on both consoles.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 is set to be one of the biggest releases of 2018, and developer Treyarch is doing something simple to stop people leaking out its game before its October 12 release.

Patch contents are included in the game's pre-load, for digital owners, but those opting for the physical version can't get around this.

Retail copies always find their way into the hands of gamers either by accident or on objective, and while there could be countless gamers with Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 in their hands, it doesn't matter - they're useless until the day one update.
