Melania Trump feeds baby elephants as Kenya visit begins

On the penultimate day of her tour of the continent - her first solo trip overseas - the first lady visited an orphanage in Nairobi before heading to a national park near the city.

In Ghana, Mrs Trump visited the Greater Accra Regional Hospital, where she donated hampers and teddy bears to the sick children and also donated a phototherapy machine used for treating complications of jaundice in newborn babies, to the hospital.

She kicked off her busy schedule on Friday morning, with a visit to David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust, which is considered the world's most successful orphan elephant rescue and rehabilitation Centre.

Melania held a baby as she thanked the orphanage staff for taking care of the children.

Trump visited a primary school in Lilongwe, Malawi on Thursday that has received assistance from the United States, the Washington Post reported. The trip is part of her "Be Best" initiative, which focuses on improving the lives of children.

Mrs Trump also plans to visit the State House to meet over tea with Malawi's first lady Gertrude Mutharika.

Brett Kavanaugh Confirmed to the Supreme Court of the U.S.
But she said the Federal Bureau of Investigation had found no corroborating evidence from witnesses whose names Ford had provided. The Senate narrowly voted Friday to limit debate on Kavanaugh's nomination, advancing it to Saturday's final confirmation vote.

"It is sad to see this", the first lady said to her guide, her hands covered in ash.

After an outdoor book reading session, she was encircled by the same children she led up the driveway as they sang and danced some more.

The first lady laughed after one elephant in the group of 18 made a sudden move and she momentarily lost her footing.

However, in contrast to visits by former US President Barack Obama and his wife Michelle, her tour has not attracted large crowds or much fervour.

President Donald Trump triumphantly tweeted that it's a lovely thing to see how well his wife is doing in Africa.

"Thank you for having me here and thank you for a lovely warm welcome", Trump told her hosts, adding that she wanted to be in Malawi to see the success of American programs here.

The first lady was told about the conditions the children face and their backgrounds, according to The Associated Press.
