Google Feed renamed to Discover, will now appear on Google's mobile homepage

Still, when Google makes a feature change, hundreds of millions worldwide use it immediately; the feature will have a major effect on search patterns when it rolls out "later this year".

Google is renaming its feed to Discover and giving it some new features to go with the new branding. Just tell Google you want "More" or "Less" like that post to tune the algorithm. This way you can check out Discover and all of its new features any time you visit google.com on your phone.

The Discover feed will show you content based on your interests, will now label the cards with new topic headers that define why you're seeing a particular piece of content. So, you'll be able to scroll down past the search box to get into the same list that shows up in the Google app.

'Retracing your steps online can be really hard, ' Fox explained.

"Search is not flawless, and we are under no illusions it is", Gomes said.

Google was under fire anew from privacy advocates for a change that automatically signs users into Chrome browsers on desktop computers when they sign into any of the company's other services such as Gmail or Search.

The new Collections tool will appear for users later this fall.

Image and visual searching is also being revamped, as the firm is partnering with open source initiative the AMP Project, which allows anyone to create a social media story-style collection of images and videos and publish them online.

While Discover will continue to focus on news, Google also says it will also surface content that might not be recent. If you start a search query that is related something you have searched previously, a card will pop up with relevant pages you've already been to, as well as previous queries in relation to the topic.

More context will be shown in your Google Images search results, as in the GIF below.

The overhauls of image search functions are rolling out over the next few weeks.

There have been concerns that parent company Alphabet is more interested in making money from people's data than in safeguarding their privacy. Google says it looks at patterns to understand how the subtopics relate to each other, so it can intelligently bring up the content you might want to see next.

The announcements are part of the tech giant's 20th anniversary celebrations, which have been going on throughout September.
