Trump's court nominee, faces new sex allegation

"Brett Kavanaugh, and I'm not saying anything about anybody else, Brett Kavanaugh is one of the finest human beings you will ever have the privilege of knowing or meeting", Trump said.

As Republicans were considering their next move in private talks Saturday, fresh divisions were emerging between those who have advocated confirmation and other GOP senators who have expressed his interest in hearing Ford's story before voting. A better question for Christine Blasey Ford and Democrats is why do they want to delay Ford's justice if they believe her story is credible?

Trump has called Ford's allegation into question, writing on Twitter on Friday that "if the attack on Dr. Ford was as bad as she says, charges would have been immediately filed with local Law Enforcement Authorities by either her or her loving parents". The two sides agreed to give equal time to all senators who wish to question Ford and to allow "adequate breaks" during the hearing. "The classmate said that he is "one-hundred-per-cent sure" that he was told at the time that Kavanaugh was the student who exposed himself to Ramirez".

The New Yorker said 53-year-old Deborah Ramirez described the incident in an interview after being contacted by the magazine. But Susan Collins - a Republican who sits on the Judiciary Committee - said she was "appalled" by Trump's tweet. I find it hard to believe that Christine Blasey Ford and Deborah Ramirez had such gaps in their memories that they required psychological help to draw them out. (In the previous Fox News poll, August 19-21, voters were split, 46 percent opposing, 45 percent in favor.) The 50 percent opposition is the worst number for a Supreme Court nominee in Fox News polling dating back to 2005.

The allegation is the latest twist in Mr Kavanaugh's already heated confirmation battle, which is set for a dramatic hearing this week involving a university professor who recently came forward accusing him of assaulting her when they were high schoolers.

The second claim against Kavanaugh dates to his first year at Yale University.

The New Yorker published new accusations on Sunday from a second woman who alleges that Judge Brett Kavanaugh acted sexually inappropriate towards her at a party during their college years.

Kavanaugh has called Ford's allegation "completely false" and said in a statement provided by the White House on Sunday night the incident described by Ramirez "did not happen".

Farrow told ABC on Monday there are "several people in this story who back Ms. Ramirez".

Tens of thousands without power following tornado in Ottawa region
Environment Canada issued a severe thunderstorm warning and tornado watch at 6:29 p.m. on Friday for Ottawa, Gatineau, and surrounding areas.

President Donald Trump was told about the New Yorker allegations hours before the piece's explosive publication, according to a White House official. Ford has said Judge witnessed the alleged assault.

Both spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorised to discuss private conversations.

Avenatti said he would provide additional evidence in the coming days.

Kavanaugh has denied both accusations, as has The White House, which continues to support his Supreme Court nomination.

In many ways, Republicans have remained in the political driver's seat since Ford came forward with her allegation that Kavanaugh corralled her in a room at a boozy house party, covered her mouth and attempted to force himself on her.

"It's starting to feel like a vast left-wing conspiracy", said Kellyanne Conway on Monday.

Conway's rhetoric echoes Hillary Clinton's 1998 description of allegations that her husband, President Bill Clinton, had had affairs. She can not recall the place or date, however, and appears to remember other key details such as who was present incorrectly. "Judge Kavanaugh has unequivocally denied Dr. Ford's allegations".

Senator Mazie Hirono (D-HI) told Jake Tapper on the Sunday spin shows that she doesn't think Brett Kavanaugh deserves the presumption of innocence because he's a conservative.

The White House is approaching Ford's potential testimony with trepidation, nervous that an emotional appearance might not just damage Kavanaugh's chances but could further energize female voters to turn out against Republicans in November.
