Italian luxury sneaker brand Golden Goose came under fire after it debuted a pair of $530 sneakers that are styled to look dingy and worn-out with duct tape accents that's described on Nordstrom's website as "crumply, hold-it-all-together tape".
Many were shocked by the design, with some pointing out that it glamorizes something that people who live in poverty have to go through - not by choice, but by necessity. "The company.is actually proud to highlight its pioneering role in the booming of the distressed look, one of the current biggest trends in fashion", Golden Goose said at the time. 'Do these idiots know what it's like to be living in poverty.
"Crumply, hold-it-all-together tape details a distressed leather sneaker in a retro low profile with a signature sidewall star and a grungy rubber cupsole", reads the description on the website.
Suffice to say that once the internet got wind of the tape sneakers, it was not a happy camper (incidentally Camper is the name of another shoe brand that has not yet resorted to fusing home improvement items with its footwear). This is bad. Insensitive. She asked, "Who's in the room when you design these?"

Cristiano Ronaldo Red Card: Juventus Star Reportedly To Serve This Ban
Already, UEFA have began a disciplinary probe against the current world's best player, who headed to the dressing room in tears. A one-match ban is guaranteed, meaning he will sit out Juve's game at home to Young Boys on October 2.
However, many seem to think the sneakers are "distasteful" and "offensive".
Nordstrom replied, "We appreciate your feedback". Rest assured your comments were shared with our teams.
Duncan tweeted back: "This isn't about taste".
Golden Goose made a pair of sneakers nearly identical to it's latest release back in 2016. That my embarrassment & struggle is being marketed disgusts me'. Last year, the company sold a pair of jeans featuring fake mud for more than $400.
