Emirates and Etihad Airways deny takeover plan

"Etihad Airways denies any plans for an Emirates takeover", an airline spokeswoman said in a statement to The National. According to Bloomberg, if the two airlines made a decision to merge, the market value would be bigger than $19.2 billion, which is bigger than the American Airlines Group Inc.

Commenting on the new cargo route network, a spokesperson for the UAE carrier said: "The new freighter network will see the airline increase existing Boeing 777 freighter frequencies into key markets in China and India, adding one weekly rotation each into Shanghai and Chennai". The Dubai government was also the driving force in compelling Emirates to cooperate with local discount carrier FlyDubai.

Etihad has been shrinking its operations following the failure of a so-called equity alliance strategy that saw it invest in a number of generally ailing foreign operators to help feed more traffic through Abu Dhabi.

The ownership of the two airlines would make any merger politically sensitive.

Lobster pot: Restaurant gets shellfish high on marijuana prior to cooking
The owner also believes that this method won't affect the edibility of the lobster meat as it will be steamed before serving, hence destroying any residual traces, the report said.

However, Emirates quickly denied the report. Emirates also owns the world's biggest fleet of Airbus A380 superjumbos, according to Bloomberg.

Dubai and Abu Dhabi are both spending heavily on airport facilities.

Emirates is owned by the government of Dubai, the region's tourism hub, while Etihad is controlled by the government of neighboring Abu Dhabi, which thanks to oil exports is the wealthiest member of the United Arab Emirates.
