Under right terms, Kavanaugh accuser may testify after all

Earlier this week, Ford requested in a letter that the hearing, originally scheduled for next Monday, be postponed until after the Federal Bureau of Investigation had time to look into her claims.

Debra Katz, the lawyer, wrote that she wished to "discuss the conditions under which [Prof Ford] would be prepared to testify next week".

The Democrats, all of whom served as prosecutors or state attorneys general, noted that President George H.W. Bush asked the FBI to investigate after law professor Anita Hill raised allegations of sexual harassment against Judge Clarence Thomas in 1991.

After going through psychotherapy, Ford said, she now understands the incident as a trauma that has had lasting impact on her life.

"Grassley says it's not appropriate for the FBI to investigate, and he's insisting Blasey Ford must testify on Monday and has set 10 a.m. Friday as the deadline to hear back from her", Colbert said.

Sara Fagen, another longtime friend who worked with Kavanaugh in the White House, told a story about how Kavanaugh helped her the day of the September 11, 2001 attacks.

The battle for confirmation comes just weeks before congressional elections on 6 November. Kavanaugh has repeatedly denied the allegations. "Most importantly, I want the American people to be happy, because they're getting somebody that is great", he said.

"I have never done anything like what the accuser describes - to her or to anyone. You've watched the fight, you've watched the tactics, but here's what I want to tell you: In the very near future, Judge Kavanaugh will be on the United States Supreme Court", McConnell said.

Thousands spontaneously began chanting Kavanaugh's name before Trump could mention it himself. Earlier on Thursday, Kavanaugh said he wanted to testify even if Ford did not show.

"Christine Blasey Ford has either developed a case of cold feet or she's playing footsie with the Democrats".

Trump, who has been careful in recent days not to criticize Ford as he defends his nominee, told Fox News host Sean Hannity Thursday that he feels the nomination has been delayed long enough.

Ford, now 51, delivered the information in a letter to Rep. Anna Eshoo (D-Calif.) and Sen. But he said he wants her to testify, saying, "I really want to see her, to see what she has to say" and that if it takes the Senate a little longer to confirm Kavanaugh, so be it. That idea was shot down by Senate Judiciary Committee chairman and geriatric meerkat Chuck Grassley, who said it is not the FBI's role to investigate a matter such as this.

According to her lawyer, Ford is willing to testify in front of the Senate Judiciary Committee. Susan Collins of ME and Jeff Flake of Arizona - said that unless Ford testified Monday they would move on to Kavanagh's vote.

"We got a little hiccup here with the Kavanaugh nomination, we'll get through this and we'll get off to the races", he said in a call with fellow Republicans, the Nevada Independent reports.

One of the four has yet to be publicly identified.

Before Friday's tweet, Trump had won praise for keeping his comments about Ford respectful, even while continuing to back his nominee to the hilt.

Grassley has yet to respond to the latest letter from Ford's legal team.

"We believe that Chrissy has acted bravely by voicing her experience from the past, and we know how hard this is for her. Chrissy is not someone who chooses to be in the spotlight", the letter said.
