Trump Attacks Kavanaugh Accuser By Name Amid Negotiations For Hearing

Abandoning his previous restraint, US President Donald Trump challenged the credibility of the woman accusing his Supreme Court nominee of sexual assault on Friday (Saturday NZ Time), declaring that if the alleged attack was so bad she would have reported it to law enforcement.

He said Democrats obviously want to delay the vote until after November's midterm elections, but he said there is "no way" McConnell allows that to happen. Dianne Feinstein, D-Calif., in his fourth tweet on the Kavanaugh nomination Friday, renewing his accusation that Feinstein and and Democrats held a letter from Ford in which she first raised the accusation against Kavanaugh "only to release it with a bang after the hearings were OVER", which Trump asserted was "done very purposefully to Obstruct & Resist & Delay".

The accusations from Christine Blasey Ford, denied vehemently by Kavanaugh, threaten to slow his Senate confirmation vote, with Democrats saying the FBI should investigate the charges, a demand that is not gaining traction among Republicans.

On Thursday, Ford also dismissed a theory advanced by a prominent Kavanaugh friend and supporter that she was attacked by one of Kavanaugh's classmates.

Neither Ford's allegations nor Kavanaugh's denials are wholly implausible on their face.

Judiciary Chairman Chuck Grassley, a Republican from Iowa, has indicated Monday (Tuesday NZT) would be Ford's only chance to make her case, but that was several days ago.

The Kentucky Republican said, "You've watched the fight".

NBC News, which first (and breathlessly) reported on Miranda's claims has now updated their story about her Tweet adding her NPR denial, but the update doesn't come, of course, until the fifth paragraph.

It will also place Ford, a 51-year-old California professor who had lived a quiet life before she publicly accused Kavanaugh of a physical sexual attack when they were in high school, at the center of a political and media firestorm.

Police said she had suffered "several stab wounds to the upper torso, head and neck", according to the Des Moines Register . Police found bloody clothes belonging to Richards, but DNA test results had not been returned yet, Huff said.

She asserted that Republicans are rushing to confirm Kavanaugh because the court's "session is going to start in October and the President wants his guy there to, he hopes, help him evade criminal or civil proceedings". President Donald Trump nominated Kavanaugh, 53, for a lifetime appointment to fill a vacancy on the country's highest court, with independent court analysts saying they believe Kavanaugh would shift the court's ideological balance toward conservative rulings for years to come. Kavanaugh has denied the allegation.

On Friday, it remained unclear how the hearing would proceed on Kavanaugh.

"It would seem that the Federal Bureau of Investigation really doesn't do that", Trump contended Wednesday.

Lawyer Debra Katz writes that Ford's "strong preference" remains a full investigation before she testifies.

Gillibrand said Senate Republicans' ultimatum of a Monday hearing was "bullying".

"It's very unfair, I think, to - as you know, Justice Kavanaugh has been treated very, very tough, and his family", the president said.

"We're getting a lot of calls, many of which are angry and some of which are threatening", said Tom Mentzer, a spokesman for Sen.

Haunting every politician is the memory of the 1991 confirmation hearings of Clarence Thomas, in which an all-male Senate panel hammered Anita Hill on her allegations of sexual harassment.
