Broncos nominated for 2019 Pro Football Hall of Fame

The Pro Football Hall of Fame announced a list on Thursday of 102 players and coaches for their modern-era Hall of Fame class of 2019, and several former Redskins are on the list. With league rules stating that only eight players will be eligible to earn a gold jacket, the list of formidable competitors is sizeable, to say the least.

Gonzalez retired in 2013 after 17 pro seasons in which he had 1,325 receptions, second to Jerry Rice on the career list.

Reed and Bailey were standout defensive backs for stout units. The Modern-Era Finalists will be trimmed during the meeting from 15 to 10 and then from 10 to 5.

Cornerback Champ Bailey was drafted No. 7 overall by the Redskins in the 1999 NFL Draft. He made six All-Pro teams and was a member of the all-decade team for 2000-10.

The roster of nominees has 47 offensive players, 39 defensive players, five special-teams players and 11 coaches.

The nominees will be reduced to 25 in November and 15 in January.

The list includes 2018 finalists running back Edgerrin James, wide receiver Isaac Bruce, offensive linemen Tony Boselli, Alan Faneca, Steve Hutchinson and Kevin Mawae and defensive backs Ty Law and John Lynch.

It should be noted that in August, the Pro Football Hall of Fame senior committee selected former Kansas City Chiefs safety Johnny Robinson as its one senior nominee for the Class of 2019. That means Denver will be a prime candidate to play in next year's Hall of Fame Game in Canton, Ohio.
