Apple unveils bigger and pricier Iphone

Apple has just announced the new iPhone XS and its bigger brother XS Max. That's the magic of aspect ratios: The XR's screen is taller and narrower and goes right up to the edge of the phone, with the infamous notch at the top, so Apple can quote 6.1 inches while making a physically smaller phone. It has a "liquid retina" LCD display that the other two phone models don't have.

Not only is the iPhone XS Max the biggest iPhone ever, it's also the most expensive. And it says a lot about our era of digital binging that Apple will probably sell them like hot cakes.

Some tech commentators are speculating that Apple is behind schedule developing the AirPower, which it first previewed one year ago, and have linked this to Apple's acquisition of the charging startup PowerbyProxi.

At the launch, Tim Cook confirmed the names of the new models - which had been leaked earlier in the day - as iPhone XS, XS Max and XR, as well as revealing release dates for global regions.

With edge-to-edge displays, improved water resistance, and a camera that can 'carry out a trillion operations on every photo, ' Apple's latest iPhone line-up may be its most impressive yet.

In most ways, this year's iPhones look like last year's iPhone X. With the XR, which was until recently rumoured to be the XC, the physical home button on iPhones has now officially been consigned to history. Apple's brought back the "S" model, which means this model looks largely the same as the X from previous year, but the guts of the phone have been beefed up in all the ways you'd expect.

Dual SIM support - which lets a phone use two phone numbers and carrier plans at the same time - will be coming to the iPhone XS, XS Max and XR. It boasts the same set of features found in other iPhone X models. The XS Max, which looks to be about the size of the iPhone 8 Plus but with a much bigger display, will become the most expensive iPhone ever, starting at $1,099 in the U.S. and €1,249 ($1,452) in Germany.

Some of you might rightly be wondering: What about my not-so-huge hands?

Apple's 12-inch MacBook laptop starts at $1,299.

Both are loaded with Apple's new A12 Bionic chip, which Apple claims runs run 15 per cent faster than the A11 chip in the iPhone X.

iPhone XR design and features: What does the iPhone XR look like? The iPhone XS and XS are even more expensive, while having a higher launch cost gives Apple greater scope for discounts later in the device's lifespan.

The Apple Watch is getting some big upgrades.

(For a while, we used the icky word "phablet"- for part-phone part-tablet - to describe them.) But now Apple's largest bests even Samsung's Note 9, which measures 6.4 inches. 9to5Mac reported that most mentions of AirPower had been scrubbed from Apple's website.

You'll have to wait a bit longer for the "budget" iPhone XR.
