Coli caused British hotel couple's deaths, says Egyptian prosecutor

He said the bodies of the couple from Burnley, Lancashire, showed "no criminal violence". The company evacuated 300 guests as a precaution shortly after the Coopers' deaths.

The couple's daughter, Kelly Ormerod dismissed the claims of E. coli as "absolute rubbish" and said she did not believe the symptoms her parents showed were consistent with the infection.

The forensic report denied there had been any leakage of harmful gases into the room. The chemical works by disrupting the nervous system of insects, causing paralysis or death. The report adds that he had consumed alcohol and hash, a kind of marijuana.

Doctors were called and attended to Mr Cooper first as his condition was worse.

Ormerod told Sky News: "The Egyptians are looking for someone to blame and I don't believe for one minute that [E coli] caused their deaths". "It is unheard of that someone dies of E.coli in such a short space of time".

No British police or government representatives had been granted access to the room where the holidaymakers died, since tragedy struck at the Steigenberger Aqua Magic hotel.

Last week, hygiene tests at the Steigenberger Aqua Magic found high levels of E. coli. All of our thoughts are with the family.

Begum Kulsoom, wife of former Pakistan PM Nawaz Sharif, dies in London
Others speculated on whether Khan's government would allow Sharif or his daughter to return to London to collect Nawaz's body. She had been in London since then and underwent multiple surgeries and at least five chemotherapy sessions.

Mrs Cooper was taken to hospital, where she later died.

Mr Cooper died from severe dysentery "that resulted from E-coli bacteria" and triggered heart problems, the prosecutor said in a statement.

Dr Rania Al-Mashat, Egypt's minister of tourism, said the health and safety of tourists to Egypt was "paramount". The findings were reportedly based on findings from their autopsies.

It comes after tour operator Thomas Cook identified a high level of e.coli bacteria at the hotel in Hurghada after independent tests were carried out on food, water and air.

Travel company Thomas Cook commissioned specialists to examine the hotel following the deaths, with tests showing normal carbon monoxide levels near the couple's room and normal levels of chlorine in the swimming pool.

Thomas Cook, which the couple was traveling with, moved 300 customers from the hotel they were staying in, the Steigenberger Aqua Magic, following the deaths on August 21.
