Alan Wake could be getting a TV show adaptation

Remedy Entertainment-the developers of both Alan Wake and Max Payne-and Contradiction Films-the production company behind video game-to-movie adaptations Mortal Kombat: Legacy and Dead Rising: Watchtower-are allegedly collaborating on the project. The plan is to start pitching it in October once Calloway has finalized the details. Contradiction Films' Tomas Harlan told Variety that Lake is a "huge part" of the show and that, ultimately, it's still "his baby". "That was Sam's vision". It was influenced by The Twilight Zone, Secret Window, Hitchcock, Northern Exposure, a lot of USA television.

Alan Wake was released on the Xbox 360 and Windows PC in 2010. He also alluded to more characters from the game's universe would play a large part, but the story won't be in "lockstep" with the game.

Currently, the plan is to shop the series around with Calloway's full pitch, and Harlan has said that he has found interest from some studios. The influence of television even makes its way into the game with the way Alan Wake was structured episodically and in-game television programs making their way into the game, which ended up selling 4.5 million copies.

"The story of the original game is our starting point, the seed which will grow into the bigger story we're exploring in the show", Lake said.

As for what fans can expect from this series, Lake told Variety that Alan Wake will still be central to the series' story but he's also planning to focus on numerous surrounding characters within the world.

"I think it's important to embrace those characters and to bring Alan Wake to where he was [in the video game, ]" said Harlan. "We'll be expanding the lore of this insane and dark universe and diving deeper into certain aspects of it than the game ever did".

Furthermore, it seems Lake isn't ready to talk about an Alan Wake 2.

For now, fans will have to settle for the new show, which Lake decline to confirm or deny will be canon, citing the need to avoid spoilers. And hey, if the TV show works out, maybe we'll finally get another game? The story followed fictitious best-selling author Alan Wake (Matthew Porretta) on a journey to a small town in Washington state where he hopes to rid himself of prolonged writer's block.
