Homeless veteran will get fundraiser cash; couple under investigation

A search warrant was executed at the couple's home Thursday morning.

Police in New Jersey raided the home of a couple who raised $400,000 in online donations for a homeless man but are now accused of pocketing most of the proceeds. However, no charges have yet been filed. "Further updates will be provided as circumstances warrant".

Authorities executed the warrant on Mark D'Amico and Katelyn McClure's home in Florence, New Jersey, about 30 miles (48 kilometers) northeast of Philadelphia, and were seen loading a BMW onto a flatbed truck, according to 6ABC. They have said they used their own money for it.

Judge Dow also told both sides' counsel to organize their paperwork, in order to determine exactly how the cash was spent before it all vanished.

The rest of the money will be handed over after GoFundMe conducts an investigation relying on items seized by the Burlington County Prosecutor's Office and what his attorneys turn over to them, Fallon says.

"I am not going to allow you to be their voice anymore", said Dow, a former state attorney general, according to the Associated Press.

On Wednesday, a Superior Court judge ordered McClure and D'Amico to give sworn testimony about their stewardship of the money in depositions scheduled for Monday. The couple started the fundraiser after Bobbitt used his last $20 to buy gas for McClure when he saw her stranded on the side of I-95 in November of previous year.

Where Did the Money Go?

McClure and D'Amico raised the money starting late previous year to buy Bobbitt, among other things, his own home and his "dream" truck: a 1999 Ford Ranger.

The couple immediately set up an account for Bobbitt and deposited $25,000 in it, which he spent in 13 days, most of it on drugs, they said.

Badway previously said in court that Bobbitt received at least $200,000 of the funds, The Inquirer reported.

In a statement, GoFundMe said that it was working with law enforcement to ensure Bobbitt receives all of the funds that were raised for him and that it has given $20,000 to a bank account created by Bobbitt's legal team.

The page was titled "Paying it Forward", and the response was incredible: 14,347 people donated $402,706 over the course of 10 months.

According to media reports, a New Jersey judge hearing a civil lawsuit filed by Bobbitt ordered the couple to testify under oath on September 10 about what happened to the money.

Whithorne said that not only will Bobbitt receive the balance of the funds, but the company is making it easier for donors in the Bobbitt campaign to get their money back. The couple denies the claims. One of Bobbitt's lawyers said that D'Amico had ignored their requests for a full accounting of the GoFundMe money and that "he's really left us with no choice but to go forward" with the lawsuit.

"If they flee, they're taking the money with them", Jacqueline Promislo, another of Bobbitt's attorneys, told the Inquirer.

There was even an appearance on NBC's "Megyn Kelly Today" show.

Officials were at the couple's home in Bordentown early on September 6, a day after a judge ordered them to appear in court, Fox29 reported.

Chris Fallon, Bobbitt's attorney, didn't return a call seeking comment on the latest development.
