Chelsea's Maurizio Sarri learned about Napoli exit from television

City were livid at having lost out on Pep Guardiola's top midfield target after weeks of talks, and there were accusations that Napoli had bullied Jorginho into signing for Chelsea rather than the Premier League champions as a way of resolving the deadlocked Sarri negotiations.

"I was out for dinner with [Giuseppe] Pompilio, the assistant of [sporting director Cristiano] Giuntoli, and I was talking to him about whether I should stay or not", Sarri told Il Mattino.

That situation resolved itself once Ancelotti was approached, but Sarri knew nothing about goings on at Stadio San Paolo after being kept out of the loop by controversial Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis.

Napoli won their last Serie A title during the days of Diego Maradona in 1990.

"Now I have Chelsea though and I'm happy. English football is different to Italian and it's played in extraordinary structures".

"I had some doubts, that's fair, but there was a clause in the contract and it wasn't something I had asked for".

Napoli fell agonisingly short of the Serie A title during Sarri's final season in charge, finishing four points behind Juventus in 2nd after leading for much of the campaign.

"I didn't win anything in Naples. Conte, on the other hand, here won and it is hard to take his place". But when we are far away, there is a bit of nostalgia and something is always missing.

Sarri nevertheless thanked De Laurentiis for "giving me the chance to coach the club that belongs in my heart", and one he hopes will be successful under his successor.

"The food more than anything, but I'm getting used to the meat and salmon here".

Chelsea are one of the only three teams that can proudly boast a 100% record in the Premier League.

On Ancelotti, he added: "We exchanged cordial messages of good luck before the start of the season".
