Sony is Finally Ending PlayStation 2 Customer Service and Repairs

Sony Japan's aftercare service for the PlayStation 2 is ending after 19 years of operation. There are many things that can break on these aging systems, but in Japan you may be surprised to find Sony still runs a fix service for its second-generation console. Sony is now pulling the plug.

Kotaku, drawing from Japanese outlet IT Media, reported that Sony Interactive Entertainment officially dropped support for the PlayStation 2 on August 31, 2018. It seems the deadline for filling out online fix forms was August 31, and anyone with a broken PS2 after that date must solve the problem themselves. Any machines that are sent off to the PlayStation Clinic after September 7 will no longer be serviced. As you might already know, it went on to become the best selling console ever, a spot it still holds all these years later.

More than 150 million PlayStation 2 consoles have been sold.
