US Open 5th seed Anderson subdues Shapovalov in five

But there's no doubt Nadal has been at the top of his game since the beginning of 2017, when he put years of injuries behind him to reach the final of the Australian Open.

The roof loses on Louis Armstrong Stadium during a match between Kevin Anderson, of South Africa, and Denis Shapovalov, of Canada, in the third round of the U.S. Open tennis tournament, Friday, Aug. 31, 2018, in NY.

The No. 11-seeded Isner - a six-foot-10, 33-year-old American - beat Raonic in four sets in the Wimbledon quarterfinals.

"I'm really happy I was able to compete out there with him", the 19-year-old said.

"He's a very powerful player, and, yeah, he knows how to play these kinds of matches", Nadal said.

Rafael Nadal took the roundabout route again before defeating Nikoloz Basilashvili to set up a quarter-final clash with Dominic Thiem at the US Open.

Nadal kept getting pushed to the brink and kept coming up with the answers. The Canadian could only convert two of nine break points.

He was two points away from dropping the third set.

Thiem has described his losses to Nadal as "horrible" and he doesn't sound confident about causing an upset at Flushing Meadows. His run to last year's final was a surprise; At No. 32, he was the lowest-ranked U.S. Open finalist in the history of the ATP rankings. Instead, it will be the ninth-seeded Thiem who will face Nadal in the quarter-finals.

Last year, he had two match points against Juan Martin del Potro in the fourth round but fell to the Argentine in five sets. He was agonizingly close to getting there a year ago at the US Open, leading by two sets against del Potro in the round of 16 before the 2009 champion roared back to win.

The roof has been closed at Louis Armstrong Stadium.

Kevin Anderson, of South Africa, serves to Denis Shapovalov, of Canada, during the third round of the U.S. Open tennis tournament, Friday, Aug. 31, 2018, in NY.

Human Rights Watch condemned the violence and said that at least 18 of the dead were civilians, among them four children. Around 400 prisoners also escaped from a facility near Tripoli amid the deadly violence between the militia groups.

"Also, the court made a big difference".

Thiem reached his first quarterfinal at any Grand Slam besides the French Open.

Sevastova advanced by beating Ekaterina Makaraova 4-6, 6-1, 6-2.

As for Shapovalov, he didn't break a single game in the three sets that he lost.

The No. 3 seed Stephens will face No. 15 Elise Mertens next.

Isner, the 11th seed, is the only American man left as he attempts to become the first home victor since Andy Roddick in 2003.

The match was delayed for less than 10 minutes.

The $150 million Ashe roof was first used during the 2016 U.S. Open. He disposed of Basilashvili 6-3, 6-3, 6-7 (6), 6-4 on Sunday.

Mertens had never won a match at Flushing Meadows until this week.

Nadal was given pause by both Khachanov and Basilashvili, who troubled Nadal with their heavy-hitting from the back of the court.

That will be followed by the top-ranked Nadal's match against No. 27 Karen Khachanov of Russian Federation.
