US Extends Travel Ban to North Korea

The planned trip on Wednesday comes amid growing worry over the slow pace of getting North Korea to end its nuclear program following President Donald Trump's Singapore summit with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un in June.

The two Koreas agreed to hold a summit in Pyongyang in September, during a high-level meeting earlier this month, but a specific date has yet to be announced. Details for the summit, including exactly when it will happen, haven't been disclosed. The statement also included a thinly veiled threat towards North Korea, warning military exercises with South Korea and Japan could be resumed "instantly" if Mr Trump gave the order.

Moon's office said it hasn't decided who it will send to North Korea or how long its delegation will stay there.

As Seoul has been highlighting the importance of creating a virtuous cycle of US-North Korea denuclearization talks, the envoy is expected to work on clearing the path for Washington and Pyongyang to make headway in their talks. North Korea hasn't responded to Trump's move.

Moon has invested considerable political capital into improving inter-Korean relations and has signaled his desire for large-scale investment in North Korea once sanctions are lifted.

"North Korea is under tremendous pressure from China because of our major trade disputes with the Chinese Government". "The travel warning for North Korea remains in place - the Department of State strongly warns US citizens not to travel to North Korea". Moon met Kim again in May when Trump said he was withdrawing from the planned summit with Kim - a decision Trump quickly reversed.

The Cluster Munition Coalition, an NGO dedicated to the eradication of these weapons, told United Nations officials on Thursday that North Korea acquired many of its cluster bombs after the collapse of the Soviet Union, but has since continued to manufacture them, according to the South Korean outlet Yonhap, citing Radio Free Asia. But many foreign experts believe that's not enough to prove it's serious about disarmament. The multinational military body, which traces its roots back to the Korean War, controls movement across the demilitarized zone which separates North and South Korea.
