Unfortunately, there's simply no chance of James Gunn being rehired for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 at this point due to his inappropriate tweets from yesteryear resurfacing last month.

Disney and Marvel had no comment on the latest development, which comes a month after James Gunn was sacked due to dozens of years-old tweets appearing to make light of pedophilia and rape coming to light.

Despite knowing about his terrible tweets and his raunchy previous film work, the company had chose to go ahead with his hiring after meeting him, leading to two incredibly successful films which together made over $1.6 billion. Gunn's original script is still expected to used for the next film. Now it appears that Marvel is not going to rush things, as the production on Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 has been put on hold.

The company insists they're just taking their time looking for another filmmaker to finish the trilogy. "The timeline has been pushed out", a source tells the outlet.

Recently rumors came out Disney and Marvel had internally discussed - and rejected - the idea of walking back their decision to fire Gunn.

Since then, the cast of the hugely popular Marvel franchise has voiced their support for Gunn, though a recent report said that it wasn't likely Disney would re-hire him for the project.

He has not tweeted since his firing.
