Kyagulanyi sat quietly, with his his head lowered, during the proceedings as his legal team made arguments on his behalf.

The military prosecution led by Major Raphael Magyezi, told court on Thursday morning they had lost interest in the case.

Medard Segona, a lawyer and politician representing Kyagulanyi, said: "He is in great pain".

Once the court was adjourned briefly, Sseggona told reporters that it was only proper that after the state withdrawing charges against the MP, he be released.

According to Bobi's lawyer, he was beaten so badly in detention that he is unable to stand on his own.

"I would like to condemn the unlawful arrest of Bobi Wine".

Kyagulanyi was first charged on 16 August with treason, along with two other lawmakers and dozens of other people.

He was detained, along with more than 30 other people, in the run-up to last week's bitterly fought by-election in the north-western town of Arua. While the president was departing, authorities said, his motorcade was pelted with stones by people associated with Ssentamu and the candidate he backed, Kassiano Wadri. He declared that the state had dropped charges of possession of illegal fire arms and ammunition against Bobi Wine.

On Sunday, August 19, police shot and killed one person and five others were injured in Mityana Municipality, about 60 kilometers outside Kampala.

His sentiments were echoed by Okelo who said Hon Kyagulanyi should be treated fairly. The prayers were organised by the Uganda Performers Association.

Kyagulanyi, who was elected to parliament past year, has emerged as a powerful voice with his calls for young people to "stand up" and take over from a "failed leadership".

"This situation should never have happened. Kyagulanyi a free man", Ssegona added.
