Former intelligence officials criticize Trump's decision to revoke John Brennan's security cleara…

Trump told reporters he was likely to take away clearance access from Bruce Ohr, an official in the Department of Justice who is linked to a dossier on Trump's campaign and Russian Federation, compiled by former British spy Christopher Steele.

Sanders said Trump is also reviewing the clearances of James Clapper, James Comey, Michael Hayden, Sally Yates, Susan Rice, Andrew McCabe, Peter Strzok, Lisa Page, and Bruce Ohr.

Ohr works in the Justice Department's criminal division. That is disqualifying for Mueller.

"Mr. Mueller is highly conflicted".

Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein, who oversees Mueller's probe, said that Ohr had no role in Mueller's probe.

Eli Lake says John Brennan needs to act more responsibly if he's going to keep launching scathing criticisms against President Donald Trump.

In announcing Comey's firing, the White House initially cited the former Federal Bureau of Investigation director's handling of the probe into Democratic rival Clinton's emails, seizing on the Federal Bureau of Investigation director's decision to divulge details of the probe to the public during her campaign against Trump.

Robert M. Gates - who served as secretary of defense under presidents George W. Bush and Barack Obama, and director of central intelligence under President George H.W. Bush - also signed the letter after it was first released late Thursday.

President Donald Trump brushed off criticism from retired Adm. William McRaven Friday on the lifting of security clearances of administration opponents.

But he also said Brennan went too far for someone in his position by suggesting without proof that Russian Federation might have blackmail on Trump.

Putin told reporters in Helsinki, while standing next to Trump, that he had wanted the former NY businessman to win the White House. "He is a man of unparalleled integrity, whose honesty and character have never been in question, except by those who don't know him", McRaven wrote.

"So, I think it's something that had to be done", Trump said of taking away Brennan's clearance.

Brennan has repeatedly clashed with Trump on Twitter and on television, calling Trump's failure to denounce Russian interference in US elections at a recent summit with Vladimir Putin "nothing short of treasonous". "Beyond that, this action is quite clearly a signal to the former and current officials", the statement said. "That signal is inappropriate and deeply regrettable".

Trump has denied that he stripped Brennan's security clearance to silence a critic. Several of them have said they no longer have clearances.

Trump contradicted the official White House explanation of why he took the action against Brennan. "I say it again: That whole [Russia] situation is a rigged witch hunt. He has the authority to do that".
