Disney reportedly not considering rehiring James Gunn for Guardians Vol. 3

Disney reportedly not considering rehiring James Gunn for Guardians Vol. 3

Gunn was initially fired from Guardians of the Galaxy 3 when old tweets with so-called jokes about rape and pedophilia were unearthed.

According to Variety, Disney and Marvel have chose to firmly stand by their decision to not rehire Guardians of the Galaxy director James Gunn back for the third installment. Marvel Cinematic Universe boss Kevin Feige did not attend the meeting, and is said to stand by Disney's decision.

The latest report of the Gunn fiasco claims that James Gunn was actually asked to sit down and meet with Alan Horn, the studio chairman of the Walt Disney Company, where Disney made it clear to Gunn that he would not be rehired. The Guardians cast as well as fans of the franchise and friends of Gunn continue to publicly support him, and a few weeks ago, reports circulated about Disney soon discussing rehiring with the embattled director.

The last month has been a peculiar one for the folks at Marvel Studios.

Variety has the depressing news of Disney and Marvel's hard and upsetting decision. Since then the franchise's stars have petitioned for Gunn to be reinstated, but Disney has confirmed that he will not be back in the director's chair for the series. However, it still ended with Disney and Marvel giving the ol' fuck you to the director who's made them billions of dollars. Sources added that while it was rumored that Feige was pushing to bring Gunn back, Feige stands by the studio's decision to not bring back the "Guardians" director for the third installment.

It must be noted that both Marvel and Disney declined to comment to Variety on the story, but the outlet seemed confident enough in their sources to proceed with the story. Hopefully Feige will be able to find a decent director and script to replace Gunn for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, which is slated to enter production early next year. Apparently, Horn/Disney has chose to stand by their decision to sack James Gunn.
