Possible terror attack outside Houses of Parliament in London

Police would not tell ABC News whether they are treating it as a terror incident at this point.

US President Donald Trump commented Tuesday on a suspected terror attack in London, urging tough action against the "crazy animals responsible".

A man crashed a vehicle into security barriers outside of the UK's Houses of Parliament, an incident that has been labeled a terrorist attack by British police.

The driver of the vehicle, a man in his late 20s, has been arrested on suspicion of terrorism by the Metropolitan Police. "No weapons have been recovered at this stage".

It added: "Two patients were treated at the scene and taken to hospital and a third patient with minor injuries was assessed at the scene".

Neil Basu, the UK's counter-terror police chief, said the suspect has not been formally identified, but that he is not believed to be known to security services.

The Islamic State terrorist group claimed responsibility for the attack.

Eyewitness Ewelina U. Ochab told CNN she saw the incident take place from the other side of the pavement.

Three people - a police officer and two civilians - were killed and dozens wounded by a lone attacker near Britain's Parliament in London in March previous year.

Since a series of vehicle attacks in London previous year, concrete barriers or bollards have been erected along bridges and beside some major roads to prevent cars mounting the sidewalk to hit pedestrians.

Added security was installed outside of Parliament a year ago after a man mowed down pedestrians in Westminster, killing four, and then stabbed a police officer to death.

Far-right extremist Darren Osborne killed one man after ramming his van into Muslim worshippers in north London on June 19, while 51 people were injured when Ahmed Hassan, 18, planted an explosive device, that partially exploded on an Underground train.
