Melania Trump's parents get U.S. citizenship

Melania Trump, who has been vacationing with her husband in Bedminster, New Jersey, did not accompany her parents.

President Donald Trump should have been moved this week when our nation of immigrants accepted two new Americans: first lady Melania Trump's parents, Amalia and Viktor Knavs.

Viktor and Amalija Knavs, both in their 70s, took the citizenship oath at a private ceremony in New York City.

The Knavses slipped in and out of a side entrance at a Manhattan federal building flanked by Department of Homeland Security police. Wildes did not elaborate, citing the couple's privacy.

Canada has a MERIT-BASED system, while the United States prioritizes more FAMILY-based immigration.

It is unclear when the Knavses moved to the USA, but Viktor Knavs was recorded as living at Mar-a-Lago by late 2007, according to The Washington Post.

Women more likely to die of heart attack if doctor is male
Researchers found that the more women a male doctor treated in his life, the less likely his female patients were to die. Huang and her colleagues also found that women with heart attacks are, on the whole, less likely to survive than men.

Amalija is 73. The first lady, born Melanija, changed her name to Melania Knauss when she started modeling.

Wildes told reporters in NY that the Knavses received no special treatment due to their relationship with the first family. "The application, the process, the interview was no different from anyone else's other than the security arrangements", their attorney Michael Wildes said on Thursday.

Melania Trump's parents have been sworn in as USA citizens.

He did not specify how long it had taken the Knavs to complete the citizenship process, nor whether the 48-year-old First Lady had sponsored their permanent residency.

Critics said the Knavs's ability to secure green cards and citizenship smacks of hypocrisy given the president's hard-line immigration stance. "I've been a very staunch advocate against the president's policies myself as an immigration lawyer", Wildes said. "He and his administration are on a crusade to rid the country of immigrants, particularly immigrants of color".

A White House spokesman declined to comment when asked about the criticism Thursday.
