A team of AI bots smashed humans at Dota 2

Prior to the Benchmark Game a team of volunteers for the audience played a public match against OpenAI Five. This defeat means they need to work hard to become the world's best players.

The humans won the final game, but only after the audience was allowed to select the bots' player characters, which put them at a significant advantage.

That being said, it should be noted that on the OpenAI's website, they admitted that the game was not your standard DotA 2 game as there had to be certain modifications made to how the game was run. Game Two was similarly one-sided, although the humans did manage to at least take one tower. On August 7, 2017, the bot started an impressive winning streak after it defeated Blitz, a well-known player in the Dota 2 community. Unlike bots in other MOBAs - like the bots in League of Legends - OpenAI is a company specializing in artificial intelligence, and the OpenAI Five didn't mess around. The best gamers in the world are machines.

This year's team of bots involved a serious amount of hardware and training.

Maybe we're not the superior gamer species after all? To everyone's awe, the bots beat the human players, which included former Dota 2 professionals, 2-1 in a set of three games.

After losing to OpenAI Five, Capitalist Walsh expressed his despair in a tweet. It had taken just two weeks for that bot to go from knowing nothing about Dota 2, the battle arena video game from Valve in which the goal is to destroy the oppostion's large structure known as the Ancient while defending their own.

After losing the first three games of Go to Google's AlphaGo, Lee Sedol, a professional player ranked second in worldwide titles, deployed a highly unusual strategy to win the fourth game, inspired in part by the idiosyncratic algorithmic playing style of the AI that he had observed during the previous three games. "This reaction time is much closer to human level, though we haven't seen evidence of changes in gameplay as OpenAI Five's strength comes more from teamwork and coordination than reflexes".
