Carmelo Anthony to join Rockets, report says

It's a near-guarantee that Carmelo Anthony is going to sign with the Houston Rockets.

According to Yahoo Sports, Anthony has verbally agreed to sign with the Rockets after spending the entire offseason linked with the team. Heck, even Anthony himself has noted he thinks he'll end up in Houston. Anthony had unveiled a refurbished basketball court in South Africa last week.

Most every credible NBA Insider has indicated such, noting that Melo's buyout from the Atlanta Hawks following his trade from the Oklahoma City Thunder was with the intent of him joining forces with James Harden and Chris Paul in Space City.

As noted by a report from NESN, it has been nearly three weeks since Anthony was traded by the Oklahoma City Thunder to the Atlanta Hawks, in a deal that was widely believed to result in the Hawks releasing Anthony and allowing him to become a free agent.

Carmelo Anthony cleared free-agency waivers last week.

Anthony opted in to the final year of his five-year maximum contract worth $27.9 million before free agency, but when the Thunder re-signed Paul George, the franchise and Anthony elected to part ways. It was the 10-time All-Star's worst statistical season in his 15-year career, concluding with his being benched late in the series of the Thunder's first-round playoff loss to the Jazz. Oklahoma City acquired Anthony in a trade with the New York Knicks on the eve of training camp last September.
