Scientists detect mystery radio signal sent from DEEP SPACE

This allowed the scientists to assume that the signal source with the code name "FRB 180725A" was extremely powerful.

"Fast radio bursts are exceedingly bright given their short duration and origin at great distances, and we haven't identified a possible natural source with any confidence", Avi Loeb, a scientist at the Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics who was not involved in the discovery, said a year ago in a statement related to new research on these bursts. The most likely origin of the fast radio bursts is changeable activity of a black hole, and perhaps even the merger of two black holes.

The new Canadian Hydrogen Intensity Mapping Experiment (CHIME) telescope, located in British Columbia, Canada, has the goal of scanning the space for radio signals and listening to them.

One FRB in particular, FRB 121102, has been heard multiple times over the course of several years.

The post reads: "During its ongoing commissioning, CHIME/FRM detected FRB 180725A on 2018 July 25 at 17:59:43.115 UTC (18:59:43.15 BST/13:59:43.15 ET)".

While they are radio signals, FRBs don't hold any information that astronomers or researchers have been able to tap.

"The event is clearly detected at frequencies as low as 580 MHz and represents the first detection of an FRB at radio frequencies below 700 MHz".

FRBs are frequently picked up on radio telescopes though their exact origins aren't fully understood. That makes it a deeper and lower signal than many others recorded. No one knows where they originate from or what they are exactly.

FRBs are not rare, but scientists have no idea about the origin of the signal. Christopher Conselice, a professor of astrophysics at the University of Nottingham told Daily Mail, this discovery could help to pave the way for a greater understanding of what causes FRBs.

Whatever it is - black holes colliding, a star exploding, or just some aliens having a really loud party - we'll probably have to wait a long, long time before science can say for certain.
