Google Maps now shares battery life when sharing locations

This update was originally reported by Android Police back in February but TechCrunch reports it's now rolling out to both Android and Apple iPhone devices.

Google Maps' location sharing feature works great for when you want to keep track of where your kids are, or to locate your friends while on a road trip.

Location sharing has been a feature of Google Maps since a year ago, allowing users to selectively share their current position with their contacts.

In brief: Friends and family can now view your smartphone's remaining battery life if you decide to share your location via Google Maps.

"Google Maps is not just about navigating from point A to B. We have been building for India, addressing the unique challenges and opportunities, with the sole aim of making Google maps more comprehensive, accurate and reliable", Google Maps for India, Program Manager, Anal Ghosh said.

French lawmakers ban smartphone usage in schools
Some politicians made a decision to abstain from the vote, declaring that the new law would have little effect in schools. Secondary schools are reportedly given the choice to opt-in on the full ban or enforce a less strict version.

So, when a user will share their location then they will also share the battery level of their smartphone with everyone to see. You can also set the duration of location sharing to a few hours or even indefinitely. There also doesn't appear to be a way to turn it off.

It's a small detail, but one that could come in handy in certain situations.

The feature has a big potential when it comes to the safety of users.

On the flip side, knowing that a friend or family member has plenty of battery life left and getting no response could raise red flags. The company has now introduced a new feature for the Android users.
