U.S. politician who used racial slur on Baron Cohen show to resign

For GOP lawmaker Jason Spencer, it took a couple of days.

Who Is America? airs Sundays at 10 p.m. ET on Showtime.

The video in question is as horrifying as it sounds. The clip was also posted on YouTube where it has been viewed over 3 million times.

Spencer's one-sentence note read: "This email/letter is to serve as an official resignation notice to your office that I will be resigning my post effective July 31, 2018".

Initially, Spencer - who introduced a bill in 2016 that would've barred Muslims from wearing head coverings - resisted calls for his resignation, saying he lost his recent primary anyway and would just leave office when his term ended in November.

Well 24 hours makes a huge difference.

State Rep. Jason Spencer (R-Woodbine) - who faced intense pressure to step down after the embarrassing appearance on Showtime's "Who is America?" - has made a decision to step down, according to The Atlanta Journal Constitution. Who knows what the future will hold for this Showtime show, but it's going to be big.

Spencer is taught to use a selfie-stick to take an upskirt shot of someone in burka in order to ascertain whether he or she is a terrorist.

He told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution: "In posing as an Israeli agent, (Cohen) pretended to offer self-defense exercises".

"Finally, there are calls for me to resign". There is no excuse for this type of behavior, ever, and I am saddened and disgusted by it. If I had not been so distracted by my fears, I never would have agreed to participate in the first place.

"I deeply regret the language I used at his request as well as my participation in the "class" in general".

Erran Morad can keep your backside. He faced criticism for a so-called "burqa ban" bill he filed in 2016, as well as for threatening comments he made to a colleague over Confederate monuments a year ago.

Baron Cohen also tells Spencer he has developed a technique to identify terrorists disguised as women in burqa face coverings.
