A dead baby was found abandoned inside the toilet of an AirAsia India flight that landed in New Delhi on Wednesday, police and the airline said.

He added the plane was flying in from the eastern city of Guwahati, and declined to give further details immediately.

The police said that the foetus has been sent for post-mortem and the woman has been sent for medical examination.

The body was discovered as the aircraft was preparing to land at the Delhi International Airport, the statement said. "AirAsia India would like to apologise to all guests experiencing disruptions in their flight schedule", the spokesperson added.
