This Uber Driver Got Suspended for Livestreaming Riders Without Permission

Uber has suspended a driver after he was found to have secretly livestreamed his passengers on Twitch, according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.

Mr Gargac told the newspaper he had made changes to offer passengers more privacy, including switching off the street-facing camera when approaching passengers' homes. From children, to public figures, to your average slightly-tipsy adult - no rider appeared to have been spared the disturbingly exhibitionist treatment, which included what seems to be high quality video and audio.

Ride-hailing companies Uber and Lyft have suspended a St. Louis driver who live streamed hundreds of passengers for months without their knowledge.

Jason Gargac, as the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reported Friday, had been livestreaming his shifts driving for Lyft and Uber since March.

Gargac claimed that the primary objective of the recordings was for security, but also contradicted himself, saying that he started driving for the services in order to create the livestream, according to the Post-Dispatch.

Gargac's Twitch videos could not be viewed Sunday.

Lyft has not responded to our request for comment.

Gargac told the publication that he saw nothing wrong with his behavior. "The driver's access to the app has been removed while we evaluate his partnership with Uber", it added.

Cubs give boy signed baseball after social media outrage
The Cubs quickly made up for the highway robbery, giving the kid a ball signed by Javier Baez , so all's well that ends well. One person defending the move responding to the tweet, "I like this guy, and he's got a pair of incredible shades on".

Lyft said in a statement that Gargac had been "deactivated".

"In terms of this particular person, we do not comment on Terms of Service violations in regards to specific individuals", Twitch said in a statement to UPI.

Local newspaper the St. Louis Post-Dispatch said passengers were seen kissing, vomiting and gossiping about relatives and work colleagues.

Gargac said he's trying to "capture the natural interactions between myself and the passengers". Gargac said he earned $3,500 from his streaming.

Gargac did have a small sign on a window that stated the vehicle was equipped with recording devices and that "consent" was given when entering the auto, but most passengers did not notice it and he never informed them about the streams.

Though Gargac's actions weren't technically illegal under Missouri law - which only requires the consent of one party for recording - the whole affair raises questions about the ethics of livestreaming and our assumption of privacy in this modern, ever-connected era.

'Saying she was an 8 out of 10 or a 9 out of 10, that's cringe-y to a point, but I don't think it goes over a line, ' he said. "It was fake. It felt produced". I.have nothing more to add here.
