CVS Apologizes After White Manager Called Police on Black Customer Over Coupon

While Matson was talking to police on the phone, Hudson said she would wait for officers to come to the store.

With these incidents of trivial police complaints being made against Black people becoming a trend, the video of their encounter soon when viral. The video ends with Matson speaking into the phone and saying, "No, thank you". "I'm Black - Black isn't a bad word".

According to a now-deleted social media post from Camilla Hudson, the black woman had attempted to use the coupon on Friday night at the CVS location on North Broadway in Chicago. She was unable to use a coupon for one of her items at the machine, and was offered assistance by store manager Morry Matson. "The manager on duty said that he'd never seen a coupon like the one I had and said that he thought it was fraudulent".

"As a woman, as a black woman, as a native Chicagoan, I'm just exhausted of it", Hudson told Block Club.

"In this case, it should always start with training and making sure employees anticipate all the various situations", Culp said, adding, "When you're a retailer that's heavily promotion-oriented, then you just need to make sure everyone knows what to do when something like that happens".

According to Matson's Facebook page, he recently became the president of the Log Cabin Republicans of IL, and he was a delegate for Donald Trump during Trump's 2016 presidential campaign.

At least two officers arrived, but "nobody generated a report", police tell BuzzFeed.

Hudson also said to the Sun-Times that CVS regional director Joe Haas "apologized profusely". He's also president of the Log Cabin Republicans, which advocates on behalf of LGBTQ conservatives, according to the newspaper. She posted the interaction with Matson on Facebook as he called police.

Hudson spoke with Block Club Chicago about the incident and says authorities were contacted after she tried to use a coupon. The company says it doesn't tolerate discrimination against customers and that it's investigating the matter.

"CVS has begun an investigation and we will take any corrective action that is warranted to prevent it from happening again", the spokesman said. "Profiling or any other type of discriminatory behavior is strictly prohibited." .
