West Nile found in Chatham County; How about Beaufort County?

Certain species of mosquitoes carry West Nile virus, which, when transmitted to people, can cause West Nile encephalitis, an infection that can result in an inflammation of the brain.

Local residents are urged to take precautions against mosquito bites.

Symptoms of Non-Neurological Syndrome can be uncomfortable, including fever, chills, nausea, vomiting, fatigue, skin rash, swollen glands and headache. All age groups are susceptible, but the elderly and those with weakened immune systems are more likely to experience severe forms of the disease.
