RAF Shawbury helicopters to take part in historic flypast

Over 1,000 RAF servicemen and women performed a ceremonial parade on The Mall in central London, along with nearly 300 personnel lining the route, including people from a variety of roles and RAF stations, representing the full diversity of the current Air Force.

The Queen and the other royals watched Typhoons form the shape of the number 100 in the sky, before the Red Arrows, the RAF's aerobatic team, concluded the show, vapour-trailing the red, white and blue of the Union Jack flag.

The Archbishop greeted the baby's grandfather, the Prince of Wales, and his wife Camilla as the royal family filed in to the palace. The anniversary of the world's first independent Air Force is of great significance, and it is fitting to pay tribute to the tenacity, skill and sacrifice of the men and women who have served within its ranks over the last century, and who have defended our freedom so gallantly.

Queen Elizabeth attended an event celebrating 100 years of Britain's Royal Air Force (RAF) on Tuesday that included a huge flypast of around 100 aircraft.

The centrepiece of RAF100 is today, with a service in Westminster Abbey, followed by a parade in The Mall and spectacular flypast over Buckingham Palace.
