KIM SPEAKS: Kim Jong Un Praises 'EXTRAORDINARY' Trump in New Letter

After U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo's meeting with North Korean officials in Pyongyang last week, he stated the U.S. and North Korea would hold working-level talks on repatriating the remains, July 12.

President Trump promised that if Kim did axe its nukes, the United States would help the impoverished nation build up its economy and open itself up to the world.

Pyongyang may be interested in taking the conversation beyond the scope of USA war remains, which would have been the topic of discussion at Panmunjom on Thursday.

The remains of some U.S. soldiers were last returned in 2007, when then-New Mexico Governor Bill Richardson visited Pyongyang.

It's not yet known who will participate from the US side.

U.S. officials declined comment on reports North Korea failed to show up today for talks in the Demilitarized Zone between the two Koreas to discuss the remains.

The idea of "practical actions" is hardly a firm stance issued by the North Korean dictator. The repatriation under discussion now would be the first since the work of United States military experts and North Korean workers from 1996 to 2005 who recovered remains believed to be those of more than 220 USA soldiers. "It is likely that military generals from the US and North Korea will take part in the meeting".

The goal of Pompeo's latest trip to Pyongyang was to negotiate the details of the nuclear agreement Trump signed along with Kim.

Trump posted the Korean and English versions of the letter on Twitter, describing it as a "a very nice note from Chairman Kim of North Korea". "Great progress being made", he wrote.

The translated letter began, "Your Excellency Mr. President". Trump agreed to provide "security guarantees" to North Korea and both countries agreed to renew relations.

North Korea watchers downplayed the significance of the letter.

After Pompeo's talks with North Korean officials last week attempting to nail down details of how and when Pyongyang plans to carry out Kim's pledge to denuclearize the Korean peninsula, North Korea called the talks "regrettable" and said the US demands were "gangster-like".

The North has invited foreign journalists, but not experts as promised, to the dismantling of a nuclear site, and pledged to close a missile engine testing facility.

When the two leaders warmly shook hands in Singapore a month ago, it appeared that a resolution to the North Korean nuclear standoff and normalization of bilateral ties would progress quickly.
