Renard Matthews Remembered by Family in Unique Way at Wake

Renard Matthews was killed two weeks ago at the age of 18, a very young age for someone to die that his family is still in shock over.

Matthew's mother Temeka says her son was a bit of a homebody, who only recently started to venture out to walk the dog she'd recently gotten him. He also donned socks brandishing the likeness of Kyrie Irving, the Celtics player that wears the number 11 shirt, the same that Matthews wore.

The family chose to celebrate him in a unique way this past Sunday, surrounding him with his favorite snacks and "playing" NBA2K while wearing the jersey of Kyrie Irving.

Matthews' family was understandably shocked by the news of their son's death, but remembered him a fitting way. I think it also speaks to the way being a gamer can be such a core part to our identities.

With the burial scheduled for Tuesday, hopefully close friends and family members of Renard were able to visit him over the weekend, as his life was celebrated in distinct fashion.
