FIBA begin disciplinary proceedings against Australia, Philippines after 'basketbrawl'

After being part of a bad fight in the Australia-Philippines' FIBA World Cup qualifier game on Monday, Andray Blatche - who spent nine seasons in the National Basketball Association - took to Twitter to explain why he didn't just use his words.

As there was no immediate threat to the players the game resumed but in a tame form as Fajardo and Norwood fouled softly until they fouled out, thus forcing the game to end.

Roger Pogoy and Chris Goulding were jockeying for position when the former inadvertently shoved the latter that sent the Australian down.

Maker, who along with fellow Milwaukee Bucks player Matthew Dellavedova, had come home from the United States to play in the match, posted a statement on Twitter following the brawl. Players piled on top of each other as fists and chairs went flying, and one Australian player could be seen pinned under a courtside chair while being punched by a number of players from the home team.

After things eventually settled down, Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas president Al Panlilio addressed the crowd.

"I want to appeal to everybody to please settle down".

Julius Randle agrees to sign with the New Orleans Pelicans
The Lakers also added versatility with James, Rondo and Stephenson all triple-double threats on any given night. James announced Sunday he was leaving Cleveland and signing a four-year, $154 million contract with the Lakers.

"We deeply regret the incident that occurred last night and our role in it. We're playing in a world championship or Olympics, it's an automatic suspension the next game and that could be the game that decides what you do". We will wait for the referees' decision. Please respect the game and make our visitors safe in the arena.

"I found it extraordinary that in those circumstances, in a tinderbox environment like that, that the game continued with three players", Moore said. Let's show respect to our friends from Australia.

There's been no word yet on any further disciplinary action from FIBA, but there's a possibility that punishment such as sanctions and/or fines could be coming down.

In a separate post by Gilas head coach Chot Reyes, the stickers were removed because they were too slippery.

The International Basketball Federation is expected to deliver punishments to the offending players.
