Bethesda wants to find "right way" to explain Fallout 76's systems

Bethesda wants to find

Bethesda's Fallout 76 is the latest casualty of Sony's refusal to open its platform and allow players from every platform to play together on a common set of servers. When asked why cross-play wouldn't be available, Howard didn't mince words or talk around the issue: "Sony is not as helpful as everyone would like", he admitted to the publication. "That's what we're building on right now, that's where our mind is, but that doesn't mean it wouldn't exist on the current systems as well". It was revealed in June that Switch players who had already activated a Fortnite account for PS4 could not transfer and use the same account on Switch but would instead be required to create a new one. However, Nintendo Switch support will continue from Bethesda in the future. "But it has a lot of new systems we've been thinking about for a while that fit that kind of game really well. You can imagine that the circumstances around that affect a lot more than just one game", Sony Interactive Entertainment CEO and president Shawn Layden recently told Eurogamer. "You can not do cross-play in 76", Howard told in an interview.

As to what sort of a single-player experience Starfield will be, Howard didn't want to liken the sci-fi title to Fallout or The Elder Scrolls.

It appears Sony has softened its stance on crossplay in recent months, although we still have a long way to go until we see such features implemented across all platforms.

In an interview with German website, Todd Howard says that Fallout 76 will not have cross-play functionality.
